calgary folk fest…

my first calgary folk fest and man was it fun.
got to see michael franti with some best mates and ran into loads of peeps!
most unexpected was the maguire clan. so amazing.

franti is a great performer and the full moon just made it all that much better.
if i had only discovered this 10 years ago….

motion notion

well motion notion was an amazing time, as per usual. our camp was super fun and glad to have had the chance to spend some quality time with my camp mates. such a great group of friends and a big thanks to stevie b for helping me find my tent :)

spent some time rafting down the river with melissa, paul and the crazy hat crew, that was definitely a great memory.

the morning yoga with surya was a wonderful way to start off before playing a glitch hop set with darvin at the beach. the sound was pretty awesome and the sun was shining, so life was pretty great.

unfortunately the festival was mired with a 4 hour power failure on saturday night but when the main stage was finally up and running the energy was amazing. the crowd was loving chris organix’s thumping set, followed by akentek’s deep charging toons. we followed up with some high energy tunes that were well received and super fun to play.

i caught part of ace ventura’ s set and it was pretty awesome. a super friendly guy with great tunes.

unfortunately i missed all sunday night as i was totally exhausted and coming down with a bit of a cold and because of the constant rain, i decided sleeping for 20 hours was much more important.

all in all the festival was amazing and the people were great. i am grateful to have such great and caring friends that love to share their laughter.

thanks motion notion 2010 and bring on shambhala.

a quick update, i will be playing a solo slot at the living room stage at 10am on friday morning and darvin and i will be playing a sons of aurora chill set at the chill area behind the labyrinth at 2am friday night/saturday morning, however you want to call it.

summer is here

So its true.
Summer is finally here and I am officially excited about it!
So much good music to listen to and so many sun hours…I wish it would stay for ever!

I am currently work hard on a new mix right now of dubby-glitchy-breaks with a lot more whooomp than my previous mixes but it is a bit more difficult than I had thought.

I have decided to dive into Ableton Live with both feet and its an exciting adventure and also a frustrating one. Exciting because the creative flow is awesome and remixing and reworking tracks is super, super, super fun and inspiring. Frustrating because I realize that writing music is not so easy and trying to get the sounds out of my head is harder than twisting a few knobs! and coupled with the fact that its summer and I really dont want to be sitting in a dark room staring at my laptop.

Anyhow, I found this really great (but short) set by one of my favorite producer. His name is Deru and he blew my socks off at Symbiosis.

Its free and legal and gives you a hint of this guys super powers.
